Tourism figures drop as visa regulations 'remain unchanged'

In his interview with the Midday Report recently, Home Affairs director general, Mkuseli Apleni, spoke about how they were beginning to implement the changes agreed to by Cabinet to relax travel regulations for tourists.

The visa regulation laws had required people to get biometric visas and to have unabridged birth certificates of the children travelling with them.

Stephen Grootes on Tuesday spoke to David Frost of SA Tourism Services Association, who said that these changes to relax visa regulations have not taken effect.

From our side we’ve seen absolutely no changes. We need clear and concise communication with regards to what it takes to effect the changes. The easier change that can be effected immediately is the requirement for people coming in needing unabridged birth certificate - we’ve received no clarity on this.

David Frost, CEO of Southen Africa Tourism Services Association
