Do you really earn peanuts? Use this handy salary comparison calculator
“Mental health increases as we pursue reality at all cost” – M. Scott Peck (author of The Road Less Travelled)
You live in an unfashionable suburb and drive an old Mazda. You have a cheap Blackberry. You think you earn peanuts, but do you really?
We all compare ourselves with others and make judgments about the quality of our lives based on these observations. The problem is that most people tend to make only upward comparisons. In other words, we often only compare ourselves to people who seem to have it better than us, leaving us feeling ungrateful and miserable.
Are you really as poorly paid as you feel? Or is the reality somewhat different?
Use the BBC's calculator to compare your salary to the world average and averages of 72 countries (including South Africa). Then count your blessings.
