Deceased valuables disappear at mortuary

Shavonne Miller, whose mother passed away suddenly last month, shared her frustrations after jewellery went missing at Salt river Mortuary.

Miller's says her mother's jewellery was in the value of R100 000 and the mortuary is not giving her a clear explanation as to what happened to it.

Vonita Thompson, director of forensic pathology service, says the department regrets the incident labelling it unacceptable.

An internal investigation has been launched to determine what happened to the jewellery, says Thompson

Thompson says the internal investigation report shows that there were certain omissions in the processes that should be followed, however, an investigation is still underway.
