A team of experts built a house in 23 days with a unique timber in Hout Bay using six types of wood and 28 sensors to create the ultimate wooden home.
The team will monitor how the materials (wood) react to the South African climate and nail down the one which is ideal and best suited to our shores.
This is a three-year project which is put together by experts in timber building, researchers from Stellenbosch University and the Czech University of Life Sciences.
Paul Crafford, PHD candidate at University of Stellenbosch says the research is hoping to quantify unique properties of the system in terms of insulation and environmental aspects.
