SABC board needs to answer for Hlaudi's appointment - Zizi kodwa

The ANC has called on Communications Minister Faith Muthambi and the SABC board to explain Hlaudi Motsoeneng's new management position. This after CEO James Aguma announced that Motsoeneng has been appointed general executive for corporate affairs.

National ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says Parliament has been asked to summon the SABC board to explain the circumstances around Motsoeneng's appointment and whether the board followed due process.

He says the courts are the final arbiters and this decision is binding.

These issues will continue to damage the SABC if the board did not act in the spirit of the law and in terms of corporate governance.

Zizi Kodwa, National Spokesperson of the ANC

Kodwa says the ANC hopes that the meeting next week in Parliament will clarify issues on whether this board is able to carry its out responsibilities and judicial duties.

He says when people see what is happening in the SOE's they automatically think the ANC cannot govern, which is why they are making this call.

He says although ANC is the ruling party they don't make decisions at the SABC.

Although we don't micro manage institutions... they do impact negatively on the image and integrity of the party and its ability to provide leadership.

Zizi Kodwa, National Spokesperson of the ANC

Hannes du Buisson, President of Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) says he agrees with Kodwa that the board needs to account for its actions.

He says fingers should not be pointing at Motsoeneng and the CEO because it's the board's responsibility to oversee operations. If the CEO is defying the court order he must be called to order by the board, according to Du Buisson.

We need to ask the board why are they continuously appointing Motsoeneng in these positions, surely Motsoeneng is not appointing himself...

Hannes du Buisson, president of Bemawu
