Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, said 20% of the millions earmarked for drought-affected regions would go to small-scale farmers across the country.
We want to ensure that they can buy feed and drill boreholes because water and grazing land has been affected. We will contribute R226 million and provinces will also put up their own funding. This is only a temporary measure.— Senzeni Zokwana,Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries
In a report presented in Parliament on Tuesday, the department said the drought has resulted in a sharp increase in prices on agricultural products such as sunflower, maize and sugar.
