It was reported that a South African judge has struck down the government ban on the trade of rhino horns locally.
Judge Francis Legodi said the South African government had failed to properly consult the public before imposing the ban in 2009.
CapeTalk’s Africa Melane (standing in for Pippa Hudson) spoke to South African representative for WildAid, Adam Welz as well as a conservationist, Braam Malherbe.
Welz said they are not happy with the judgement and that it will set as a bad example to other countries.
If we open up our domestic trade of rhino horn here then China would say oh the source country allows its people to sell it, why do we allow it too.— Adam Welz, South African representative for WildAid
