Looking up towards the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, The Vineyard has always been a romantic destination, and never more so than on Valentine’s Day. And it’s not only lovers who love Valentine’s at The Vineyard.
On 14 February, diners at the 219-year-old estate can choose between the annual petal-strewn Valentine’s Picnic beside the Liesbeek River, or dinner inside at The Square restaurant.
Valentine’s PicnicThe menu for the picnic baskets include Dalewood mini camembert, sweet chilli cream cheese, gorgonzola, preserves and health seed bread; hot-smoked salmon, baby potato salad with dill gribiche; smoked roast beef, carrots, sprouts, cucumbers, coriander and noodles with botanical dressing and a crisp banquette; olives, artichokes, roast peppers and aubergine with basil pesto and rissoni; country-style duck terrine, chicken and tarragon galantine, pickles and crackers … Perfect for the sharing, the dipping dessert this year will be chocolate Nachtmusik fondue with berries, shortbread, truffles, macaroons and Meringue Kisses. There’s also a bottle of wine tucked into the basket.
Valentine’s at The Square Just as special, always, is dinner at The Square. This year’s Valentine’s Dinner Menu from Chef Carl is sure to thrill: The amuse-bouche sets the scene with crispy and fragrant sesame tempura vegetables and duck with a tantalising dipping sauce. The starter is your choice of grilled camembert with tarragon dark berry compote and a rye wafer or gin-cured salmon trout with dill potato pancakes and cress. After a palate cleanser of strawberry daiquiri sorbet, the main course is served for sharing: grilled kingklip with a shrimp-bisque sauce and seared fillet with a béarnaise sauce for two. Pudding is a sharing plate of chocolate Nachtmusik fondue with berries, shortbread, truffles, macaroons and Neapolitan gateaux.
