Climate Change and Business

For business climate change has developed from being a peripheral concern to an increasingly more central issue for considered thought and decision-making by executives and investors around the globe.

Climate change business leaders have discovered that, besides it being the right thing to do, early and meaningful action on climate change can have significant benefits.

These include:

- Brand differentiation and enhanced reputation
- Huge marketing and media opportunity associated with going green
- Increased efficiency through reduced energy and fuel consumption, therefore positive impact on the bottom line
- Reduced impact of any current energy crisis on their business
- Understanding and addressing their future carbon liability as carbon taxes and punitive energy tariffs get mandated
- Ability to attract a broader investor base of more ethically minded investors and funds
- Increased customer loyalty and trust
- Enhanced employee loyalty and pride
- Being at the forefront of policy development on the topic
- Contributing to a more sustainable and low carbon future.

567 CapeTalk and Talk Radio 702 are the primary media partners of the CCLA Awards.

“When we heard about this initiative we were very keen to get involved as climate change is an issue of great relevance in our listeners’ lives. As a responsible media company we saw this as an opportunity to influence a large audience to make changes in their lives, to combat climate change,” said Terry Volkwyn, CEO of Primedia Broadcasting which owns the stations.

To prove that the stations are not just talk and no action, the entire company underwent a green audit recently, to gauge its impact on the environment. The broadcaster will now be looking at ways to reduce its carbon footprint, including educating their staff, and engaging their suppliers on their impact on the environment. Furthermore they plan to share their experiences with listeners who can learn from them.
