It should also be obvious that their front man gets his on stage energy and high leg kicks from Angus Young and the other members of ACDC.
The Wilson Rock Trio is made up of Tammy, Paul and Gareth Wilson. All three members use their very individual voices and instruments to produce the unique sound that is SGQ. All three members originate from hardy Eastern Cape stock, born and bred in the tiny town of Molteno . While SGQ is based in Joburg, the band tour though out the year – both in South Africa and our neighbouring states.
The front man and lead guitarist of SGQ will stand out immediately because of his enthusiasm for tequila, tight pants and tattoos. Gareth Wilson re-introduced super skinny jeans and a passion for performance. His untreated approach to performing has become synonymous with impromptu jam sessions and the bringing together of unlikely musicians and their often converse music genres. When asked what career he would have perused instead of music, Gareth simply stated that, “When I realised that making a living from music was a reality, being a muso was an easy choice”. He believes that in an age when music can be over produced, it’s important to give your audience a well rehearsed and honest show – spontaneity adds an essential energy and dimension to all of SGQ’s live performances.
On the drums, on the vocals, Mr Paul Wilson...who is not only the talented SGQ drummer but also one of SA’s hottest male celebrities, as voted by Heat readers nationwide. As brothers, Paul and Gareth have been playing together for as long as they can remember. “Paul and I have been playing together and brawling for the last 20 yrs, it’s all we know”. Like the two other band members, Paul settled into his career as a musician from an early age, “Music just took over”. He can be described as a high energy drummer who pays equal attention to his technical delivery as well as his crowd pleasing performance. Like the legendary John Bonham and Keith Moon, he will never just be the guy at the back of the stage holding down the beat.
Don’t let the attentive brown eyes and petite frame of this dinky bass player fool you into a false sense of stereotype. The sheer volume and quality of this little lady’s voice brings the house down every time and makes Tammy Wilson an irreplaceable asset in this close nit trio. The trained ear will be able to pick up Tammy’s classical music background. She began her formal music studies in vocal and cello before taking up the position of bass player in SGQ. She started touring straight after school and hasn’t looked back since.
The personalities, passion and raw talent of each member converge together to ensure that this band’s sound remains fun, poignant and completely contagious.
In terms of contemporary favourites, the Band looked to the likes of the Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Wolfmother as references for the sound of their latest album Delusions of Grandeur. This much anticipated release was recorded and produced in Cape Town by Theo Crous and is set to hit stores on 1 March 2011. This album is not only their most collaborative effort as a band, but also show case the individual strengths of each member. SGQ has a truly diverse and wide reaching audience. Their lyrics are well penned and pertinent, their stage energy is infectious and listeners all over South Africa can’t help rocking to the old school yet inventive sound of SGQ. After watching one of their performances...the gents will want to Be the Lion, while all the ladies wish they were The Girl Who Saved the World.

GOOD NIGHT, A PROVACTIVE ART EXHBITION EXPLORING THE POWER AND FRAGILITY OF WOMEN
Established South African artist, Heike Davies, will hold her first solo exhibition since 2005, at the Barnard Gallery from the 2nd of February 2012. The exhibition entitled “Good-Night”, will feature bold figurative mixed media paintings that explore the power of female sexuality.
This powerful exhibition of 30 paintings, explores the contradictory perceptions of women as objects of desire, abuse and fear. “The work talks about female sexuality, as one of the most powerful forces, yet it is the very thing that renders women completely vulnerable,” says Davies.
The emotive work combines elements from traditional portraiture with something that is more uncomfortable and raw. Her subjects, a pantheon of women, some taken from commercial mass media images, others are women from the sex industry, and some are friends. The differences between them are blurred and merged; it is difficult to tell which are prostitutes, fashion models, friends or porn stars. On the canvases the subjects merge into a nameless, faceless confrontation, they are all portrayed as women in a way that is fragile yet fierce in their strength.
The works juxtapose vulnerability and assertion. Many of the subjects shut their eyes in escape from the viewers prying eyes, to evade the questions, judgments, yet somehow they are all very present. Yet, others are painted in a formal frontal perspective and challenge the viewer directly with their very direct confrontational gazes. Yet all somehow manage to present themselves naked before you, vulnerable, defiant and beautiful.
This work portrays women in unadulterated honesty, contrasting virtue with a common and underlying primal sense of allure. The over-riding feeling of the works is beauty – and the complexity that surrounds beauty – the blessing and the curse of being female.
“Heike’s latest body of work is a both powerful and thought provoking, a must view for those looking to be inspired, “ concludes Chris Barnard, owner of the Barnard Gallery.
The exhibition will open on the 2nd of February 2012 and run until of 7th of March 2012.
Visit www.barnardgallery.com for more information or email info@barnardgallery.com to receive regular updates about the exhibition.

How real is real? My work triggers sufficient interest I hope in what it ‘is’ ie what’s in front of them and might hopefully persuade people to ask what it means or stands for' ....Storm Thorgerson

The Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged is hosting a Charity Golf
Day at the Rondebosch Golf Course on Friday 23rd of March 2012 for the
benefit of our six sub-economic homes.
CPOA as a non-profit Organisation for the aged based in Cape Town, has
recognised that the plight of indigent older persons living in South
Africa is very real and has faithfully accepted the challenge to care
for older persons for the past 57 years through community based
services and homes for the frail older person. At present CPOA houses
approx. 500 indigent older persons and renders services to another
2000 community based older persons by means of our senior centres and
home help projects.
The need to recognise that all older persons have contributed to the
development of South Africa, albeit some in small ways, should be a
challenge to both the corporate world and communities to offer their
support in whichever way possible. It is also a well-known phenomenon
that populations are living longer and are increasingly more dependent
on care.
Our appeal to you is to support us in making this a memorable day.
Please complete the attached Golf Schedule and Help us care to
continue to make a difference in the lives of older persons in our
care.
Although we are fully aware that your company is inundated with
requests, we anticipate that you will favourably consider our appeal.
Should you be unable to enter a FOURBALL or sponsor a WET HOLE, we
will gladly accept and ACKNOWLEDGE any DONATION or PRIZES towards this
FUNDRAISING event. You would, of course, be welcome to send along
brochures/flyers for display on the day.
Thank you and kind regards.
