TAKING OUT THE (TRAILOR) TRASH!
24 March 2012

Our place Restuarant in Durbanvile invites you to join us for a night filled with mystery, gossip and back stabbing. The “Taking out the trailer trash” Murder Mystery draws inspiration from politically incorrect stereotyping in South Africa. The victim of our mystery, Koosie Pienaar, had invited trailer park residents (of which you are one) to join him for a braai at his ‘plot.’ As usual, the Klippies and Cokes were flowing; a new batch of Umqombothi had just been brewed and everyone was having a lekker time. What happened next in respectable English...Koosie left to wash his hands at the tap around the corner and never came back. Kosie was found face down in one of the big black dirt-bins – dead! You are now a suspect and by the end of dinner you will need to find out which one of you killed Koosie. None of you will feel safe again in your little trailer (trash) homes until you do! What happened next in your ‘taal’…Koosie Pienaar is vrek and nou’s jy in die @#$! Expect seriously stereotypical South African characters, thrown together in a melting pot of boere-wors charm and chakalaka flavoured humour, as suspects become “ace detectives” in an effort to stay out of Polsmoor Correctional Facility.

COWARD & COLE
07 March 2012 - 24 March 2012

Two of the most popular composers performed by two of the best piano men around–award-winning performers Godfrey Johnson and Roland Perold première their new show. Contemporaries from across the Atlantic, Noël Coward and Cole Porter were masters of their craft when it came to hitting a nerve with just the right amount of sarcasm and irony, and brought us favourite songs such as Let’s Do It, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and Mrs. Worthington. Featuring the dynamic musical duo Johnson and Perold, this collection of Noël Coward and Cole Porter’s timeless masterpieces delight with witticisms, social commentary and innate absurdity.

VALIANT SWART EN SY BAND
23 March 2012 - 24 March 2012

ROOTED, A SOLO EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY CLAUDIA
17 March 2012 - 11 April 2012

This series of paintings expose indigenous South African plant forms and the strength and potency that they hold. Each artwork depicts the coexistence and interdependence of nature’s male and female forces, celebrating these counterparts that both oppose and harmonise with one another. Each plant relies on the inter-relationship of these two forces in order to be rooted within its perfectly balanced structure. Claudia’s work taps into our rich cultural heritage. Each artwork evokes the notion as to where we come from and where we belong. As South Africans, we are rooted in our cultural environment which, in turn, is fundamentally rooted in us. In isolating her imagery from its surrounding landscape, Claudia’s work reveals a dynamic moment in a plant’s life. Her bold, magnified representations of plants become a landscape in their own right. Opening at 11am on Saturday March 17thOpening speaker: Estelle Jacobs. Walkabout with the artist at 11am on Saturday March 24th. Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm

The celebration starts with the sound of New Orleans and the Mardi Gras Festival with tributes to Louis Armstrong and Elvis Presley and quickly moves to Brazil with the sounds of Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana. This show has no boundaries and also includes the glorious sounds of Ireland’s celebration of St Patrick’s Day with songs like Danny Boy, The Wild Rover and The Leaving of Liverpool. The journey continues to Sydney Australia to the Mardi Gras Pink Festival where the disco tunes of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, take to the air with songs like It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive and I Love the Night Life. We then experience the scary celebrations of Halloween with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and of course Monster Mash and The Time Warp! The party continues in Jamaica with The Sun Splash Festival and the reggae sounds of Bob Marley’s Stir it up, Could you be loved and the beautiful Redemption Song. Then it’s time to touch down on our own home soil with our own South African celebrations that are not only historical but also have groove and soul! We celebrate The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival that has been brewed for more than three centuries in District Six and is sure to get the party going. The music never stops and is one endless party as we head for the Soccer World Cup 2010 with the anthem Wavin’ Flag bringing the show to a frenzy! Just when you thought it could not get better we head for new year’s eve at Times Square New York where the audience will link arms and sway to Auld Lang Syn.
