This series of paintings expose indigenous South African plant forms and the strength and potency that they hold. Each artwork depicts the coexistence and interdependence of nature’s male and female forces, celebrating these counterparts that both oppose and harmonise with one another. Each plant relies on the inter-relationship of these two forces in order to be rooted within its perfectly balanced structure. Claudia’s work taps into our rich cultural heritage. Each artwork evokes the notion as to where we come from and where we belong. As South Africans, we are rooted in our cultural environment which, in turn, is fundamentally rooted in us. In isolating her imagery from its surrounding landscape, Claudia’s work reveals a dynamic moment in a plant’s life. Be sure not to miss conceptual wildlife artist John Moore's current show at the SA Print Gallery. These particular works have never been exhibited in Cape Town before. On show are a selection of John Moore's woodcuts, etchings and lithographs. John's exceptionally detailed and realistic works are depictions of wildlife and the poignant plight of endangered species. This is at a time when there is urgent need to change our attitude to the environment and nature, which John feels passionate about. His style contains elements of surrealism and traditional naturalism which merge into thoughtful reflections of our age. John believes his work assists the viewer to find their own interpretation and allows the work to speak to them personally. The imagery often includes references to the Khoi-San - which he believes are the ‘first people' of the Southern African continent.
