The Parlotones to perform at an OLD MUTUAL Kirstenbosch Centenary FUNDRAISING CONCERT
(February 2012) Diarise Sunday April 8 when South Africa’s most popular group, The Parlotones, take the stage at the magnificent Kirstenbosch venue. This special Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Concert is a fundraiser for the upcoming Kirstenbosch Centenary in 2013 and promises to be a concert ending the summer season on a high note.
Hard to believe that Kirstenbosch started as a derelict farm once owned by Cecil John Rhodes more than one hundred years ago. It was proclaimed a national garden in 1913 and then the work began to create the magnificent garden we know today from the rubble. Today Kirstenbosch is a world renowned Botanical Garden, much loved by local and international visitors. With 2013 being the landmark Centenary year plans are underway to celebrate in style.
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Concert aims to raise funds for this much anticipated and iconic year and with an extra half an hour of great music, the audience will be getting great value for money! Brilliant entertained on a lazy Easter Sunday afternoon in support of one of Cape Town greatest assets.
South Africa’s most loved rock band, The Parlotones – is supported by The Ice Project - a soft rock/post grunge band that started out in Potchefstroom.
With a string of hits under their belt and a new album “Journey through the Shadows “ due for release in May, The Parlotones are known for their professional and polished stage performances. Darkly romantic lyrics underline their style and music lovers are certainly in for a treat. Twelve brand new tracks feature on their new album and the audience will certainly enjoy hearing some of these new songs. The Parlotones will have recently returned from climbing Kilimanjaro raising global awareness to end violence against women and children in Africa. Following the Old Mutual concert they will be preparing for a 27 city US tour.
Energetic and savvy, this is a band that has its fans at heart and offers a real experience. With concerts sold out wherever they appear book now to avoid disappointment.
Opening act, The Ice Project has evolved from acoustic sounds to a full four piece band drawing influence from a wide variety of iconic groups. Now based in Pretoria they have shared the stage with The Parlotones and other well known bands. They are currently preparing to record their first full length album.
Pack your picnic basket or buy one from Silvertree Restaurant or The Kirstenbosch Tea Room and prepare for a holiday Sunday afternoon that sets the pace for the upcoming Centenary year.
All money generated through ticket sales will go directly to the Kirstenbosch Centenary Fund.

This series of paintings expose indigenous South African plant forms and the strength and potency that they hold. Each artwork depicts the coexistence and interdependence of nature’s male and female forces, celebrating these counterparts that both oppose and harmonise with one another. Each plant relies on the inter-relationship of these two forces in order to be rooted within its perfectly balanced structure.
Claudia’s work taps into our rich cultural heritage. Each artwork evokes the notion as to where we come from and where we belong. As South Africans, we are rooted in our cultural environment which, in turn, is fundamentally rooted in us. In isolating her imagery from its surrounding landscape, Claudia’s work reveals a dynamic moment in a plant’s life. Her bold, magnified representations of plants become a landscape in their own right.

Be sure not to miss conceptual wildlife artist John Moore's current show at the SA Print Gallery. These particular works have never been exhibited in Cape Town before. On show are a selection of John Moore's woodcuts, etchings and lithographs.
John's exceptionally detailed and realistic works are depictions of wildlife and the poignant plight of endangered species. This is at a time when there is urgent need to change our attitude to the environment and nature, which John feels passionate about. His style contains elements of surrealism and traditional naturalism which merge into thoughtful reflections of our age. John believes his work assists the viewer to find their own interpretation and allows the work to speak to them personally. The imagery often includes references to the Khoi-San - which he believes are the ‘first people' of the Southern African continent. This evocative body of work is where the human and the spirit world meet. To read more and see more of John Moore's work http://printgallery.co.za/

DANCING IN THE STREET
Party all over the world
Dancing in the Street is the one and only Barnyard Show that will give you the opportunity to party all over the world at various famous carnivals, celebrations and festivals. We will criss-cross the globe and visit exotic destinations like the Rio Carnival, the Mardi Gras Carnival in New Orleans, The Cape Minstrel Carnival in Cape Town, St Patrick’s Day in Ireland, The Halloween Festival, The Soccer World Cup 2010 in South Africa and a New Year’s Eve celebration at Times Square - New York.
The celebration starts with the sound of New Orleans and the Mardi Gras Festival with tributes to Louis Armstrong and Elvis Presley and quickly moves to Brazil with the sounds of Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana. This show has no boundaries and also includes the glorious sounds of Ireland’s celebration of St Patrick’s Day with songs like Danny Boy, The Wild Rover and The Leaving of Liverpool. The journey continues to Sydney Australia to the Mardi Gras Pink Festival where the disco tunes of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, take to the air with songs like It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive and I Love the Night Life. We then experience the scary celebrations of Halloween with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and of course Monster Mash and The Time Warp! The party continues in Jamaica with The Sun Splash Festival and the reggae sounds of Bob Marley’s Stir it up, Could you be loved and the beautiful Redemption Song.
Then it’s time to touch down on our own home soil with our own South African celebrations that are not only historical but also have groove and soul! We celebrate The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival that has been brewed for more than three centuries in District Six and is sure to get the party going. The music never stops and is one endless party as we head for the Soccer World Cup 2010 with the anthem Wavin’ Flag bringing the show to a frenzy!
Just when you thought it could not get better we head for new year’s eve at Times Square New York where the audience will link arms and sway to Auld Lang Syn.
There will be dancing, singing and music swinging at the Cresta Barnyard Theatre this summer. We’re calling out around the world, are you ready for Dancing in the Street? Well get down to the Cresta Barnyard Theatre for this year’s biggest Party!
