More than 300 volunteers have arrived to start building classrooms and playgrounds at a number of Khayelitsha schools this week as part of the annual Mellon Educate blitz-build.
Director of Education at Mellon Educate, John Curran says they will be building 16 classrooms, two playgrounds, an outdoor gym and kitchen blocks as well as sheltered areas in three schools.
In preparations of the building project, Mellen Educate has dug two boreholes in two schools to help them build without relying on the municipal water supply.

We would like to hear from anybody who is interested in supporting better education in South Africa.— John Curran, Director of Education at Mellon Educate
According to Curran each of the volunteers contribute to the building material used in building the schools. They also pay for their travelling costs to South Africa to come and build these schools every year.
