Augmented water supplies will have to wait, as thieves plunder drilling sites

Thieves are operating at many of the drilling sites within the Cape Flats Aquifer region.

Bianca Resnekov interviewed Xanthea Limberg (Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services and Energy at City Of Cape Town).

Limberg says equipment such as cables, tyres and batteries have been stolen.

We’ve beefed up our security measures, and have implemented additional 24-hour security to assist and safeguard these sites.

We urge residents to partner with us if they’re aware of any irregular activity, or if they’ve seen any material that might in any way linked to one of our sites, to please come forward with that information.

How to report suspicious activities:

  • Report vandalism of City infrastructure: 0860 103 089

  • Report metal theft, or provide tipoffs regarding metal theft: 0800 222 771 or 021 400 2828.

  • Report theft to the South African Police Service: 10111

  • Report theft to the Public Emergency Call Centre: 107 (landline) or 021 480 7700 (cellphone).
