The City of Cape Town is looking for private developers to provide solutions to the city’s traffic woes and affordable housing needs.
CapeTalk's John Maytham spoke to Brett Herron, Mayco member for Transport, to find out more about the City's plans.
We are looking to leverage what we think is valuable property on the foreshore and is 6 ha of property.
— Brett Herron, MAYCO for Transport
Watch this video of one of the proposals:
We're saying to developers, here is 6 ha of property that we would put for development and we want transport solutions to be funded by you in return.
— Brett Herron, MAYCO for Transport
Herron says the 6 ha stretch of land, from the CTICC, eastward to Culemborg, is currently zoned for transport purposes, and will go through a rezoning process as soon clear plans are in place for what is to be done.
On 8 July, the City plans to issue a prospectus that will provide developers with all the information they need for devising a development proposal for the property.
