Topbet whistleblower's job is secure - Commission of Gender Equality
The Commission for Gender Equality says one of the victims who spoke out about the violation of women at a gambling franchise in Johannesburg Topbet, has been placed on precautionary suspension.
Eyewitness News this week revealed how a group of about 20 female staff were allegedly strip-searched by cleaners at the instruction of a manager who wanted to identify a person accused of leaving menstrual blood in the communal toilets.
The commission's Lulama Nare says the manager could still be held liable.
In yesterday's long discussion with the owners of Topbet who are also female, they have dismissed the female manager.Lulama Nare, Chairperson at the Commission for Gender Equality
What has happened with Gladys, the woman who laid the complaint, she was then put on precautionary suspension. The reason why, was that through the trauma she has experienced, she was unsure of how things were going to turn out and whether the other employees would support her.Lulama Nare, Chairperson at the Commission for Gender Equality
With full pay, her job is secure. We have made sure of that.Lulama Nare, Chairperson at the Commission for Gender Equality
And the manager in question may still have to face the commission.
She is still liable if the complainant takes her through the Gender Commission, she will have to pay for her deeds.Lulama Nare, Chairperson at the Commission for Gender Equality
