Random Acts of Kindness with Dis-Chem

Dis-chem Foundation donates 240 hygiene packs to rural primary school in Tulbagh

The Dis-chem Foundation has generously donated hygiene packs to all 240 pupils at Twee Jonge Gezellen Primary School.

Two months ago, Twee Jonge Gezellen, an underprivileged rural school in Tulbagh, launched a personal hygiene campaign.

Teacher Marisa de Klerk explains that the initiative hopes to develop the personal hygiene of learners, while also fostering self-esteem and improved school performance.

We started the campaign to educate the learners about the importance of personal hygiene and overall cleanliness. In doing so we hope to cultivate a sense of personal pride and values in the learners.

De Klerk explains that the school predominantly serves the children of farm-workers who live on the surrounding wine estates, and whose socio-economic status means they cannot afford certain toiletries.

The donated hygiene packs will include soaps, roll-on, body spray, toothpaste, sanitary products and other items.

Project manager at the Dis-Chem Foundation, Penny Stein has commended the initiative at the school and hopes they will continue with their efforts.
