'We take responsibility for our shortfall and don't blame anyone for our defeat'

14 May 2019 1:26 PM
Democratic Alliance says it will review its elections campaign and performance.

Democratic Alliance spokesperson Solly Malatsi says the party's leadership takes full responsibility for losing almost half a million votes in the 2019 national elections.

He says this is the sentiment that came out of the federal executive committee meeting held on Monday.

Read: 'Maimane is our leader, elected by DA members, he will lead until next congress'

There is recognition from the leadership that we all play different roles in the party and when we go through a slump it's the leadership that takes responsibility.

Solly Malatsi, Spokesperson - Democratic Alliance

Malatsi says there is a process to review the party's performance as well as the elections campaign in order to establish where they came short.

The next step will be to address those shortcomings in preparations for the 2021 local government elections.

No one in the party is blaming anyone for the performance of the organisation. There is a recognition that we came short...

Solly Malatsi, Spokesperson - Democratic Alliance

We know that the lessons from these elections we will use them going forward in order to improve our campaign and our electoral prospects going into the upcoming election.

Solly Malatsi, Spokesperson - Democratic Alliance

We are embarking on this journey of making sure that we look internally on how do we revive the organisation by looking at our methods of campaigning.
