Onlangs het hy weer gehore aan sy voete gehad met sy uitblink-spel in die titelrol in Pieter Fourie se bekroonde toneelstukke; Faan se Trein en Faan se Stasie. Opnuut het die kollig weer gewink en dertien jaar na die eerste kuier rondom boeke, herleef sy eenman-program Doodkry is Min nou. Die hart is nog dieselfde maar daar’t ‘n paar nuwe name bygekom soos Dana Snyman, C.Johan Bakkes en Rita Gilfillan. Nes destyds is die stories steeds vol pit en vonkel. Sommiges is hartseer, ander laat jou lag en die meeste sorg vir ware genoegdoening. Voor pouse is dit Wihan en sy ou vrind, sy kitaar, wat vir ons gaan sing. Ook maar soos stories, net getoonset. Don’t miss the last stargazing evening of the season at the Taalmonument in Paarl on Saturday 13 March. From 20:00 – 23:00 members of OOG (Orion Observation Group), an informal stargazing club from the Boland, will share their telescopes with visitors, focusing on Saturn, the lord of the rings, and other well-known planets and constellations. Guests are advised to bring along binoculars and a torch covered with red cellophane or material. Guests will also participate in the international campaign GLOBE at Night – by recording the brightness of their night sky by matching its appearance toward the constellation Orion with star maps of progressively fainter stars. The measurements will be submitted on-line and the organizers will release a map of light-pollution levels worldwide. Over the last four GLOBE at Night campaigns, volunteers from over 100 nations have contributed 35,000 measurements.

The month of March has great significance in the wine industry, in that it symbolises the celebration of the harvest. With this in mind, make your way to Franschhoek for the inaugural Vendange Celebration (French for harvest) on Saturday, 13 March, where visitors are invited to join in with the celebrations of harvest. In keeping with the French heritage and, true to tradition, a long and exceptionally colourful harvest table will be set up in the centre of the town, welcoming locals and visitors to sit down to a sumptuous feast. A traditionally bountiful French inspired feast of mouth watering delights, prepared by some of the village’s passionate chefs, awaits. As if that wasn’t enough, guests will also get the opportunity to mingle with some of Franschhoek’s well-known and award-winning winemakers and sample the area’s finest wines. Before tucking in, guests are invited to work up a hefty appetite and partake in the age old art of grape stomping. In 2010 the popular award-winning Ikhwezi Theatre Festival celebrates 12 years of development theatre with 12 dynamic productions which take to the Baxter Golden Arrow stage daily for one week only from 11 to 20 March. Widely regarded as one of South Africa’s premier platforms for new and indigenous work, the festival’s future was under threat last year due to a lack of funding, despite its phenomenal success for more than a decade. The 12 productions in the line-up this year are A Plague of Heroes, The Crossing, Born to Void, Ukuphuma Kwelanga, Zithin’Indaba, Behind my Shadow, Egoli, Kwanele!!!, Allie Pad Funny Worcester, The Blind Man’s Judgement, The Voice of a Mother’s Pulse and Trompies. Over the years Ikhwezi has showcased close to 200 new works with more than 680 actors, writers and directors who have attended workshops and participated in the festival, conducted under the guidance of highly acclaimed local playwrights, directors and other industry experts.

A Capella music has, for an exceptionally long period, suffered under the impression that it was a music genre lacking sex appeal, audience-accessibility and commercial viability, and perhaps a touch lame. Needless to say, perceptions haven't hindered D-seven, a bold new ensemble that has set the Cape Town music performance scene alight with tight sets, fitted jeans, slick moves and smooth music. And if first impressions are anything to go by, many a fan of high-quality live music will be grovelling to the musical gods in thanks for a long while to come. And grovel you just might. The men of D-seven certainly are a sight to match their sound, which is itself winning wide acclaim. The group is moving from strength to strength, having performed to packed houses on some of the countries premier stages, as well as a number of local television stations. This is the first year that The Maths Club®will be hosting these classes in the Western Cape and it’s due to the fact that since the learning area - Mathematics has been made compulsory, the current assessment structure of the new Mathematics curricula has not been made enough accessible to the majority of learners especially in the townships. The concept of The Maths Club sessions involves tutoring learners from various schools by the principal tutor in a big venue; say a school hall, using audio – visual equipment to amplify the lesson. The duration of each session is three hours at the most and learners receive materials covering all the concepts to be discussed in the session.
