Vegan Cuisine Month: The benefits and pitfalls

20 February 2020 5:42 AM

Vegan Cuisine Month was started by the American Vegan Society to help bring awareness to how easy it can be to switch from meat-eating to plant-eating. The American Vegan Society was started by President Freya Dinshah, who wrote The Vegan Kitchen (1965), the first cookbook in the U.S. to explain veganism and give vegan recipes to the United States. She and her husband have since been considered to be the founders of the vegan and vegetarian movements throughout the United States as well as the rest of the world.
Can we live solely on a vegan diet? Are we getting everything we need?

The Good Doctor: What is pre-diabetes?

This means the person is at risk of developing sugar diabetes. Normal Blood fasting
blood glucose levels are between 4-7 mmol/l. Fasting blood sugars of < 5.6 mmol/l –
normal and rules out diabetes. 6 – 6.9 mmol/L – are people with impaired fasting
glucose, THESE ARE THE SO CALLED PRE-DIABETICS, which means the person is at risk for future diabetes. Diagnoses of diabetes could be made with a random blood glucose test over 11 with associated symptoms of diabetes. 7 mmol/l confirmed by 2 tests repeated on separate days within a two-week period – can diagnose diabetes.

Politics has evolved over the years since South Africa's first democratic election but after 26 years of democracy, what changed? The country has three major political parties. The ANC, DA and the EFF with leaders like Cyril Ramaphosa, John Steenhuizen, and Julius Malema but are these the leaders we want to see?
