On Saturday, 7 September 2019, Carl Wastie caught up with Goodluck frontwoman, Julz Harding, about their brand new single, 'Dear Future Me', ahead of their performance at Huawei Jo’burg Day, hosted by our sister station, 947 at Crocodile Creek in Lanseria.
After a busy Eurotrip with international producers, writers and incredible talent; 'Dear Future Me' is their follow up release to ‘Be Yourself’.
The song is an exciting collaboration with Netherlands-based musician, Jonas Kroeper.
The lyrics in ‘Dear Future Me’ have been crafted to remind us just how disconnected we have become from one another. How frantic our lives are, and just how little time we give to being present with each other and perhaps most importantly, ourselves.
On Wednesday, 19 February 2020, a new song, 'n nuwe liedjie, was dropped, that you just can’t get enough of. It’s from a man we call Die Kaptein – the right and honourable Kurt Darren!
Released just in time for his 50th birthday, Die Kaptein released this massive party liedjie unlike any other: 'Party Tyd'.
The song is an ode of thanks and love to his fans for all their love and support over his expansive career.
On Saturday, 22 February 2020, Carl Wastie decided to give Die Kaptein a quick call on the Kfm Top40 to wish him a happy birthday, congratulate him on reaching this milestone in his life, and simply catch-up, before spinning 'Party Tyd'.
Kurt Darren - knowing we were going to call and that cellphone signal was bad - took time out from his weekend away with his wife, Dunay, to play receptionist for the Marakele National Park, so that he could take our call on a landline (we're still wondering if he took any bookings whilst he waited for us?)
On Saturday, 15 February, Mathew Gold dropped by the Kfm Top 40 for an EXCLUSIVE interview and first to play of what will be the lead single on his upcoming album, ‘Breakfast, Lunch and Deep House’.
Explaining to Carl that the album offers the trifecta, with “breakfast” representing his acoustic-pop sound that we’ve come to love from him, “lunch” being a nu jazz type of sound, and “deep house” being just that - deep house - taking the listener on a journey.
Whilst the album release date is yet to be confirmed, as is the release date for the lead single, Mathew Gold gave us an EXCLUSIVE first time play of the single, which is called ‘Burn’.
And there’s only one way to describe the single, and words just won’t do it - and that's with 3 x flame emojis in a row!
On Saturday, 8 February 2020, Carl Wastie called up South African star, Jethro Tait, on the Kfm Top40 about the single he had dropped just one day prior, 'Sad'.
Connecting with Jethro whilst his area was in the middle of loadshedding was a risky move: but was worth it, as he opened up about this song, which many would call a risky move for a public figure: opening up about deeply personal insecurities.
On surface level, Jethro Tait seems like a confident pop star. He has been behind hit singles like ‘The Words’ with DJ Kent, ‘Running Wild’ with Pascal & Pearce as well as solo singles ‘One For The Books’ and ‘Who Are You’ and he shines when he’s on stage. But, the reality is that sometimes, anxiety gets the better of Jethro as he tends to shy away from social situations and overthinks everything – something so many people around the world battle with. So, he’s opened up about he’s experience on his honest new single, ‘Sad’ - a bold move that Carl Wastie thanked and praised him for, recognizing the fact that it is important to demystify and normalize talking about such problems, especially amongst men who are often brought up to believe otherwise.
Following the chat, Carl Wastie played 'Sad' as a future beat (a track you need to show some love to get it on the chart).

On Saturday, 8 February 2020, Cape Town up-and-comer, Timothy de Monk, came to the Kfm 94.5 studios for a chat, game and first time play of his new single on the Kfm Top40 with Carl Wastie.
Timothy’s performance and sound has evolved by utilizing elements of acoustic guitar, pop, and hip hop. His live performance consists of edgy loops with strings and fresh vocals – which certainly sparked his interest in changing things up for his next single.
During the interview, Timothy revealed a little more about himself, as well as played the ever-revealing game of 'Sing It Back' - where Carl Wastie asks guests a set of questions and without time to truly think about an answer, they need to sing back their response.
Timothy de Monk's new single, 'Keep You Up', was also played as a future beat (a track you need to show some love to get it on the chart).
To see it officially added to the chart - and to give it the power to move up - make sure you request it via our WhatsApp line: 082 536 1 536, as well as download and/or stream it from an authentic streaming service like Spotify, Apple Music, Google Music or YouTube Music.
On Saturday, 8 February 2020, Tayla Hunter, a 15-year-old Capetonian rising star, dropped by Kfm 94.5 for her first-ever interview and radio play on Kfm 94.5. The moment was a dream come true for Tayla, who is a long-term fan of the biggest chart show in the province, the Kfm Top40 hosted by Carl Wastie.
The Edgemead High learner revealed who her biggest supporters have been and those who encouraged her to chase her dreams - and even threw a little shade at her primary school who didn't think she was good enough for the choir (...bet they're regretting that now!).
After a few minutes of getting to know this young homegrown talent, Carl Wastie played her debut single, 'Untouchable', as a future beat (a track you need to show some love to get it on the chart) and you certainly showed it some love - with a flurry of messages and voicenotes showing love for the song flooding through on the Kfm 94.5 WhatsApp line during the song's Kfm 94.5 debut.
To see 'Untouchable' officially added to the chart - and to give it the power to move up - make sure you request it via our WhatsApp line: 082 536 1 536, as well as download and/or stream it from an authentic streaming service like Spotify, Apple Music, Google Music or YouTube Music.
TiMO ODV has a new banger out – just in time for Huawei KDay 2020 on the 7th of March at Meerendal Estate.
The Jo’burg based artist, caught up with Carl Wastie on the Kfm Top 40 this past weekend (1 Feb 2020) about the new single, ‘All I Want’, and how it came about (spoiler alert: this track, unlike his previous single, the toilet was not instrumental in creating this one).
He also gave us a little insight into what he does in his spare time and revealed that he is quite a boss at playing DOTA. Whilst it has been quite a while since TiMO has played Carl’s favourite game, FIFA, – Carl laid down the gauntlet that at Hauwei KDay he wants to take TIMO on at FIFA backstage!
TiMO may be one of the biggest DJ-producers in South Africa – and we may know all his jams now – but also revealed in this highly entertaining interview, is some of the best awkward moments when TiMO was still starting out (and saying “yes” to any gig that would pay).
On Saturday, 25 January 2020, Carl Wastie called up pop sensation, Ava Max, for an EXCLUSIVE chat on the Kfm Top 40.
During the interview, the Sweet But Psycho songstress let us in on what was behind some of her biggest songs, what's on her playlist at present, what she knows about Cape Town - and revealed that she will be coming to South African on tour in 2020.
Whilst none of the big promoters have been able to confirm whether or not Ava will be coming to Mzansi, she certainly has whet our appetite and we can't wait to see!
After long last, DJ-producer extraordinaire, DJ Cosher, has finally released his debut album, 'Certified', available across all good digital platforms.
The Cape Town producer, who's been teasing the album for more than 2 years, joined Carl Wastie on the Coca-Cola Top40SA on Saturday, 7 December 2019, to chat about the highly anticipated musical work, but also to drop his brand new single, featuring former collaborator Jimmy Nevis, who DJ Cosher created his hit single, 'Think I Might' with.
The new track with Nevis is called 'Clutch' and provides smooth R&B mixed with DJ Cosher's signature dance sound, culminating in a Summer anthem worthy of any road trip mixtape these December holidays.
Whilst Carl had DJ Cosher in-studio, he also managed to get the juice on all the tracks on the album, revealing some interesting nuggets like which artists were being considered for certain songs, who some of the international artists were, and which songs were born out of cute WhatsApp voice notes from DJ Cosher's youngest nephew.
Locnville are back - and not just with new music... the Chaplin brothers, Andrew and Brian, have relocated back to Cape Town following a stint in Jozi and abroad in the USA.
The twins joined Carl Wastie on the Coca-Cola Top40SA on Saturday, 23 November 2019, to chat about their brand new single, 'Little Less Liquor' which features Milnerton's very own Anica Kiana - someone who is no stranger to the chart after her fans managed to secure her an interview and get her debut single, 'Talk', charting on the #CokeTop40CT.
As next year commemorates 10 years of Locnville, Carl decided to test Locnville on their decade of works - playing them a second of previous hits to see if they could name the song - and threw in some curveballs, which they boys handled pretty well.
On Saturday, 16 November 2019, Sam and Claire of No Method joined Carl Wastie on the Coca-Cola Top40SA to chat about their new single.
The latest offering called ‘I Like To Party’ is a feel good and upbeat dance track – just in time for Summer.
Featuring RPS (which stands for Rock Paper Scissors) - another one of Sam's groups, the single has a disco influence throughout the song, with a funky vibe sure to get you up on your feet dancing.
