Allan Barnard
	Born on the West Coast and raised in Cape Town. After school I tried my hand at UCT to become a social scientist - got the T-shirt - hated it! I then went travelling (loads of travelling), got those T-shirts. Someone told me I have a nice voice for radio, tried my hand at it, Good Hope FM liked my hand (and my voice) - then Kfm and here I am, 21 years on radio later! E-mail Allan Barnard

What did you want to be when you were little?

First, class captain, then president of South Africa, then a lawyer, then a teacher. None of these materialised.

What soothes you?

Lying under an airconditioner in 42 degree heat

What irks you?

People who can't spel.

Is there a book you read that changed your life?

Not yet: I always end up in a silent argument with the author.

The music you listen to most often?

Recently; French ballads. They just ooooze l-u-r-v-e.

Who would you go to the ends of the earth for?

The taxman! Seriously though, all my friends.

Who is your greatest source of inspiration?

Too many to mention.

Do you have any 'show off' coffee table books in your home?

A photographic history of the Cape.

Ever been left speechless on the air?

MANY times! Mostly my own doing, for instance when I simply cannot think of a perfectly common word that describes what I'm trying to explain. Known to all and sundry as a senior moment.

Who is the one person you would love to interview, but haven't yet had the pleasure?

O.J. Simpson. I'm still popping to know if he did it.
