Rafe Lavine

Born Capetown. Raised and schooled in Rhodesia. For all the right reasons I chose the wrong career path – Accountancy and Administration – hated it! (pure, undiluted yawn!).
Took me 17 years to fight my way out of it! In 1982, after practising at home for 6 months, I sent a demo to gary Edwards at a still new 702, did an audition and Gary said “Ok, you’re on this weekend!!” Jaw hit the floor but I’d found my calling – having a lot of fun and getting paid for it!! Then long stretches with the national Pop Station, The National Public Broadcaster, then 5 years on Jhb Classical Station. And now…..here.
I am… back where I started. I feel right at home. Thanks Gary !!!

Yes - once! - When, on an on-air phone-in, this woman said that she'd like to rip my clothes off. There was a distinct pause (for effect of course) and then I chickened out and went straight to spots!
Who is the one person you would love to interview, but haven't yet had the pleasure?
Mampele Rampele but formidable women scare me, so let's say Eric Clapton!
