Bruce Whitfield presents the multiple award-winning “The World at Six” on Talk Radio 702 and 567 Cape Talk each weekday between 18h00 and 19h00.
Bruce is regarded as one of South Africa’s leading financial journalists and was named “Financial Journalist of the Year” in the 32nd Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year awards.
“The World at Six” focuses on the day's breaking business news stories, market analysis and opinion.Bruce’s broader journalistic achievements have been applauded in three tightly contested, consecutive Sanlam competitions.
His work in radio, television and print has also been recognized by financial services group Citadel and global banking group Citibank which named Bruce its South African financial journalist of the year.
His award saw him attend a two-week intensive financial journalism course at the prestigious Columbia University in New York with other country winners from around the globe.
Free State born and Grahamstown educated; Bruce cut his teeth in journalism at Talk Radio 702 in the run up to the 1994 democratic elections. Shortly after that he worked in London at Reuters and independent radio stations for four years before returning to South Africa where he developed a taste for business and financial journalism. In addition to his radio duties, Bruce covers banking and insurance for weekly business magazine Finweek, writes an investment column for Men's lifestyle magazine Best Life and presents a range of investment focused programs on Summit TV.

PROFILE
What did you want to be when you were little?
On the radio. I used to listen to Squad Cars, Jet Jungle and later AudioMix and thought ;
What soothes you?
Pilsner Urquell and any wine produced at Fredericksburg by Rupert and Rothschild - their Classique is jolly good value.
What irks you?
Taxis...
Is there a book you read that changed your life?
The music you listen to most often?
Anything my wife puts on.
World Music, acid jazz generally are top of the list.
Who would you go to the ends of the earth for?
My wife.
Who is your greatest source of inspiration?
Ditto. She doesn't let me get away with a thing.
Do you have any 'show off' coffee table books in your home?
Nope - they just gather dust and take up the space where my feet should be while watching TV.

Ever been left speechless on the air?

Every time Aki Anastasiou walks past the studio.
There is something about him that makes me speechless.
Who is the one person you would love to interview, but haven't yet had the pleasure?
Warren Buffet - and if I timed it right, his good mate Bill Gates might be in the room with him at the same time - the two richest guys in the world giving chunks of it away to do good work. Awesome.
