ROAD CLOSURES

The City of Cape Town is anticipating a crowd of 40 000 spectators at Friday’s Double Header Event at the Cape Town Stadium and therefore urges spectators to use public transport to get to and from the match conveniently.

Vasco da Gama, SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs are playing in the first event to take place in the stadium this year.

Extra event-related public transport will supplement the usual public transport system, and Metrorail has arranged for additional trains to run after the match. Various rail and bus park-and-ride facilities will be available on the day and the popular fan walk from the Cape Town Station to the stadium will be open. The MyCiTi shuttle bus will also be available to transport spectators between the Civic Centre and the stadium, free of charge.

With all these options, and the fact that various roads around the stadium will be closed for the match, spectators are urged to make use of all the public transport options offered on the day.

Information on both regular and event-related public transport is available on the 24/7 Transport Information Centre’s toll-free number, 0800 65 64 63 while event-related public transport enquiries can also be sent to transport.info@capetown.gov.za.

The various security checks in place at the stadium often take time and it is best to try and get to the stadium early to avoid missing the match kick-offs. The first match (Vasco da Gama vs Supersport United) starts at 18:00, but gates open at 16:00. The second match (Ajax vs Kaizer Chiefs) starts at 20:45. The stadium gates close at 23:45.

Match tickets entitle fans to free access to event-related rail services and/or the dedicated event shuttle services.

The following transport options are in place for fans travelling to and from the game:
