Afternoon Drive with John Maytham

Driving you home every weekday from 3 pm to 6 pm, this seasoned journalist, trained actor and published author serves a round-up of local and international news, coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather as the day winds down.

Test your general knowledge in John’s popular Rapid Fire feature, and tune in for weekly book reviews.

From difficult interviews with politicians to in-depth conversations with authors and entertainers, John doesn’t miss a beat.

John Maytham is a trained actor who made the switch to radio over 20 years ago when he joined the news team at Radio 604. He then swapped reporting for anchoring an AM drive time show at a national talk radio station. Once he set the bar for South African news and talk radio he accepted the challenge to join Primedia Broadcasting and help establish the newly founded CapeTalk, fulfilling the role of both News Editor and Breakfast Host. He was the first host to switch on the mic at the now 18-year-old station. Years later, he was also the first radio broadcaster to do a Google Hangout in South Africa.

John has racked up an impressive list of interviews including former president Nelson Mandela and South Africa’s youngest published author. He was the last to interview cricketer Hansie Cronje just before he boarded the plane which crashed, claiming his life.

Those that have been listening for years make a point of never missing a show and those that have recently started listening almost all agree that he rates as one of the most informed and intelligent people they have heard on the radio.

Join in the conversation with John weekdays from 3 pm – 6 pm.
