Last week a Caracal was spotted in the Bergvliet area and a photograph was shared on Cape of Good Hope SPCA Facebook page.

The conversation on caracals got some attention from CapeTalk listeners who wanted to know more about these animals.

Dr Laurel Klein Serieys from the Urban Caracal Project says there are a lot of caracals out there than people think.

Listen to the full conversation on the Pippa Hudson Show:

One of the aims of the project is to assess how many Caracals are there, what’s the population size in Table Mountain National Park…

Dr Laurel Klein Serieys from the Urban Caracal Project

My best guess would be less than a 100 caracals living in Table Mountain National Park and surrounding areas.

Dr Laurel Klein Serieys from the Urban Caracal Project

These cats are very elusive and they prefer not to be seen by humans generally
