Cape woman's murder seen as hate crime

5 December 2016 1:20 PM

Noluvo Swelindawo was shot and killed at the weekend and her body found near N2 highway.

Cape Town police are investigating a suspected hate crime in Driftsands near Khayelitsha after Noluvo Swelindawo was killed at the weekend.

The 22-year-old was shot and assaulted and her body was found near N2 highway.

Coordinator of a local non-governmental organisation Free Gender, Funeka Soldaat, says community and police have not shown a lot commitment in fighting hate crimes.

As long as these incidents are termed as lesbian issues not community issues then it becomes a problem.
