Kids glued to digital screens may suffer eye strain

25 April 2017 10:59 AM

Extended use of digital devices leads to eye strain, dry eyes, and blurred vision according to optometrist Richard Mathivha.

Richard Mathivha, Optometrist at Eye-save optometrists, says the accelerated use of digital devices leads to eye strain, dry eyes, and blurred vision.

Mathivha says there is no evidence of permanent damage to eyesight due to eye strain.

Recent Google research has shown that children spend three hours a day on average watching videos online.

Parents should worry if it happens because most of the cases we find that people spent more that two hours on digital devices.

Mathivha recommends that children be taken to an optometrist every year for eye screening and early detection of any defects.
