Axed CEO Thokozani Magwaza was due to testify against the minister in a public inquiry into her role in the Sassa payment scandal.

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) CEO Thokozani Magwaza has been removed from his position after accepting an exit package.

Magwaza has apparently been the subject of death threats, in connection with his work to end Sassa's contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPS).

He and Social Development Minsiter Bathabile Dlamini agreed to the terms of the exit package after a consultative process, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

They decided to terminate his services. Ultimately, Thokozani Magwaza has been fired. We don't know what the agreement was.

Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) chair Themba Godi condemned the level of intimidation against Magwaza.

Magwaza was due to testify against the minister in a public inquiry into her role in the Sassa payment scandal.
