Cape Town man makes money out of selling excess water amid drought
CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to the owner of a company that sells water in bulk.
On Monday, Kamies spoke to Environmental Law expert at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Terry Winstanley about the legalities of selling water.
She said it all depends on where the water was sourced from - as water such as that from borehole is from a sourced not owned by anyone, and therefore could not be sold.
Henk Meyer, who owns Henk Meyer Restoration sells water at between R2 000 for 4 000 litres and R6 800 for 18 000 litres.
After being told he cannot make use of municipal water for his business, Meyer says he had to find other ways to survive.
I bought a truck, put a tank in it and found a water bottling company that was prepared to give me all the water that is thrown away when they give each bottle a spray of clean water before they fill it.Henk Meyer, owner of Henk Meyer Restoration
Instead of that water being thrown away I was allowed to put that water into a tank...Henk Meyer, owner of Henk Meyer Restoration
