Technobyte: New pill records medication taken.
Technobyte's Aki Anastasiou brings you this week's latest tech innovations:
Black is South Africa’s latest streaming entertainment service
Mobile operator Cell C has launched its own media and video-on-demand platform.
While there are already many providers such as Netflix and Showmax, Black gives users a different experience and more flexibility in choosing their content.
One can choose to rent, buy or subscribe. One can also customise their experience and choose what they want to watch when you want to watch it on any platform.
They also introduced the Black set-top box that turns your TV into an entertainment centre. Black is also interactive and gives users the ability to interact with their social platforms while viewing.
First digital ingestion tracking system
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved the first drug in the U.S, with a digital ingestion tracking system.
Abilify MyCite (aripiprazole tablets with sensor) has an ingestible sensor embedded in the pill that records that the medication was taken.
The product is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, acute treatment of manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, and for use as an add-on treatment for depression in adults.
The system works by sending a message from the pill’s sensor to a wearable patch.
The patch transmits the information to a mobile application so that patients can track the ingestion of the medication on their smartphone. Patients can also permit their caregivers and physician to access the information through a web-based portal.
Elon Musk's latest addition
Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s latest addition – an electric truck that has the potential to disrupt the trucking industry. Musk announced that the truck will have a range of around 800 km, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 20 seconds fully loaded.
Musk also announced that this would be the safest truck ever thanks to the enhanced autopilot that helps avoid collisions. Musk also said the energy costs of the new Tesla trucks will be half of what a diesel truck costs.
