We take a look at the global app economy and Amazon unveils the store of the future, and review the OnePlus 5 smartphone.

Take a listen to this week's Technobyte with Aki Anastasiou:

Watch the video below

Amazon’s store of the future has been five years in the making. But the unveiling is just about here. Amazon Go, the company’s first brick-and-mortar convenience store, will open to the public on Monday on the ground floor of Amazon’s new headquarters on Seventh Avenue in Seattle.

Though the unveiling will take place about a year later than the company originally planned, it will still be met with great intrigue because of the store’s unique technology that Amazon believes can make checkout lines a thing of the past.

To that end, Amazon Go is outfitted with a cocktail of modern technology that enables shoppers to simply grab items off of shelves and automatically get charged the right amount without stopping to pay upon exit. No lines, no waiting.

Take a look at the store:

The App Annie 2017 Retrospective Report is the definitive guide to the global app world. How many apps did we download? How many apps does the average person use a month? The big picture: The app economy is extremely healthy.

Each year, we take a close look at the top-level indicators within the app economy, namely downloads, consumer spend and time spent in apps, comparing them to two years’ prior to get a more holistic sense of growth. The numbers from 2017 certainly inspire confidence.

There’s been a 60% growth in the number of app downloads globally, consumer spend has more than doubled, and time spent in apps spiked by 30%, to the point where each user spends about 43 days per year in apps.

The average user accesses close to 40 apps per month. In most markets analysed, the average smartphone user has 80 apps on their phone and uses 40 of them in a given month.

The OnePlus 5 may not be a familiar name in the smartphone market, but their latest device is getting rave reviews globally. Many are saying that the OnePlus 5 is the best camera installed on a phone in the current market. Their new flagship device is beautifully built, has a superb battery life and has fantastic performance.
