'Victims of Marikana shouldn't be used to mend ANC-EFF broken relations'

Amcu President, Joseph Mathunjwa says Marikana should not be used as a PR exercise to mend fenced between these two parties.

Amcu President, Joseph Mathunjwa says they 'were unpleasantly surprised' by utterances made by President Cyril Ramaphosa that he will be visiting the victims of Marikana to apologise.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the official funeral of struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela stating that he will fulfill his promise to her.

But Mathunjwa says Amcu is not happy about that announcement and says the victims of Marikana should not be used to mend the broken relationship between the two parties.

Both the EFF and the ANC have no organisational rights in that mine, therefore, it is very wrong to suggest that the EFF is the gatekeeper for the State President to meet the widows. Those widows are organised, and they are under the banner of Amcu. We are the only trade union there.

For the President to come and meet the widows, he doesn't need the EFF to accompany him if he is serious.

Mathunjwa says this is not the first time the President is making such announcements. He says Marikana is being used as a PR exercise to make try mend political fences.

If the President is serious about the people of Marikana, he should silently compensate the widows and apologise, without making a noise about it, says Mathunjwa.

We really don't appreciate such things. These are our people, they have feelings and he is playing with the feelings of our people.
