A list of top CT activities to keep your kids entertained these holidays
It's that time of the year again.
Schools are out and parents need to find activities that will provide entertainment but also create good quality family bonding time.
The Adventure Club app you wanted to know more about is Cape Town Adventure Clubs.
You can download the app for free from the Google Play Store or App Store.
Adventures vary in price according to what you choose to do – some start from as little as R40 a person, while others are more. There are also discounts for siblings available in many cases.
The date is of your choosing – you select an activity, select a date, book, and pay on the app.
Some of the activities on the app are:
Musical Maestros - A classical musical concert aimed specifically at children. Bring along your own instruments, listen in your own way and join in as the classical musicians delight us in introducing our adventurers to a range of stringed instruments. There will also be time to touch and experience the instruments.
Gan Eden Farm - Perfect for all age adventurers we will be thrilled as our adventurers get to experience a real working farm. Meeting the farm animals, exploring and experiencing a dairy and tasting fresh milk. Tractor rides and more.
Sensory Food Play for Little One’s - This is specifically aimed at under 3’s. Cherie will introduce our littlest adventurers to a wide range of sensory fun- including rainbow spaghetti pasta, jelly gloop to taste and explore and more. This adventure is perfect for assisting sensory integration whilst having fun with friends and guardians!

All Free Walking tours run on tips alone and start from Motherland Coffee Company on Mandela Rhodes Place, Corner Wale and St Georges Mall. Look out for our green umbrellas.

- Story time
You can head for a local library or bookstore to enjoy story time for kids.
The the Central Library runs a range of workshops, classes, holiday programmes as well as regular story times on Fridays at 3pm.
One Saturday a month: Moms, Pops and Tots Story Time at 2pm
There is no charge and no need to RSVP. All children and parents welcome.
They also run free weekly art classes for beginners and budding artists between the ages of 6 and 13 - Every Wednesday 15:30 – 17:00
The June Holiday Programme includes a dance workshop on Fri 29 June with Heal the Hood, and a poetry circle on Sat 30th
The Book Lounge also offers regular storytime on Saturday mornings. Every Saturday at 11am is Storytime! The recommended age guideline is 3-8 years old, but all are welcome and Storytime is always free of charge.
- City Rock Open Weekend
Want to experience rock climbing for the first time? Visit CityRock in Paarden Eiland this coming weekend on Sat 23 or Sun 24 June, and check out a world class indoor rock climbing venue
Entrance is free all weekend. Free climbing introductory courses every hour, on the hour. Free yoga classes throughout the weekend. There will be an opportunity to sign up with no joining fee.

- Watch the firing of the Noon Gun on Signal Hill
This includes a brief talk beforehand that explains the history of one of the Mother City’s oldest traditions. Accessible on Monday – Saturday at noon - arrive at 11:30am for the talk and build-up.
- Take the kids to Museum night at the V&A Waterfont
Museum night takes place on on Thursday 28 June from 5-10pm. There is free or half-price admission to a number of attractions including the Zeitz MOCAA, Springbok Experience Rugby Museum, Two Oceans Aquarium, and the Nelson Mandela Gateway.
Pick up a printed programme on arrival at the Waterfront and wonder your way through the different venues
- Art Classes with Lisa Hart
Lisa will be running a kids’ art and crafts club during the holidays, aimed at children grades 4-7. She’s a mom herself and knows how much her own kids enjoy their craft time. She’s also passionate about cleaning up our waste! Lisa there’s a strong focus on recycling and upcycling? Kids will make marionette puppets from loo rolls, wire sculptures, lanterns from tins, baskets from old magazines , painted stone magnets etc.

Each workshop runs for three days : 25-27 June, 2-4 July, 9-11 July

- July cooking classes with Nikki Green
This holiday Nikki Green will host cooking classes for kids, with a soccer theme. The classes are open to all children of school going age. The lessons take in Fish Hoek at R220 a person. Contact Nikki Green on 021 785 7572 and 0833 548 548.
- Mosaic classes at Big Tree Mosaics
Big Tree Mosaics offers beginner to advanced mosaic classes. They run special children's classes over the school holidays. Sessions accommodate maximum 6 people per class.

- Visit Winter Wonderland in Gordon’s Bay
A range of music, markets, rides and festivities. International food, art and crafts, competitions, a new Winter Palace with snow as well as the fun fair.

- Alice in Wonderland at Canal Walk
Take the family down the rabbit hole at Canal Walk – catch Alice in Wonderland at the centre court theatre. Introduce your kids to the world of smoking caterpillars, Mad Hatter tea parties, Tweedledum and Tweedeldee, and of course, the embittered Queen of Hearts.

- Noddy at the Artscape
The much-loved Enid Blyton classic Noddy is back. The cast is made up of speech and drama pupils from all over Cape Town, ranging in age from 2-16 years. The show takes place on the stairs outside the theatre. It starts 23 June and runs until 7 July.

- Send the kids on a Camp
If you’d like to get the kids outdoors and exploring their independence, consider sending them away on camp. In this case, the Soetwater Environmental Education Centre near Kommetjie – located in the Soetwater reserve.
There are two holidays camps, 25-29 June and 2-6 July. Both are aimed at kids aged 9-12. They entail bird and reptile encounters, hiking, obstacle courses, campfire concerts, birdwatching, rock pool talk, traditional games, potjie competition, lighthouse tour and more.
Indoor activities have also been planned in case of inclement weather. The price is R1650 per child – includes all activities, three meals a day, overnight dormitory accommodation, well supervised.
