Dr Nyathi says that food poisoning is rife during the festive season.

We often attend ceremonies, weddings, and parties around December where we come in contact with an assortment of different foods adds Dr Nyathi.

Dr Nyathi says that the preparation of this food is normally done under unhygienic circumstances.

The symptoms of food poisoning includes diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and sometimes an individual is hospitalised he adds.

Avoid salads when you go to functions because they are food poisoning prone.

Dr Nyathi says that unprotected sex is another risk that unfolds during the festive season.

People celebrate the festive season in many ways including under the belt.

Dr Nyathi says that people tend to drink a lot of alcohol during silly season which fuels poor judgement.

Unsafe sexual practices unfolds because people take risks he adds.

Dr Nyathi says that South Africans must take certain measures if they've had unsafe sex.
