No room for staff without integrity, says new NPA boss Shamila Batohi

Batohi was appointed last year after the ConCourt ruled that the appointment of former NPA head Shaun Abrahams was invalid.

New NPA boss Shamila Batohi has officially taken charge and says there's no room for compromised individuals on her team.

Batohi held her first press briefing on Friday and spoke alongside Justice Minister Michael Masutha and Deputy Minister John Jeffrey on her first day in office.

The prosecutions boss says she is starting her new job a time of crisis for the rule of law in South Africa, reports EWN's Kgomotso Modise.

Batohi was appointed last year after the Constitutional Court ruled that the appointment of former head Shaun Abrahams was invalid.

She's vowed to restore faith in the NPA.

She says that she's entering at a time when there is a crisis in the rule of law in South Africa.

In terms of staffing, she made it clear that there was no place for officials at the NPA that do not want to uphold integrity.

Batohi also told journalists that she would be reviewing the NPA's communications strategy with the media going forward.
