The SOS Coalition's Duduetsang Makuse says it welcomes the appointments as a full board can now implement decisions.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) finally has a full board.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed the appointment of eight new board members.

They are Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, Jasmina Patel, Bernedette Muthien, Benjamin Lekalakala, Saths Cooper, David Maimela, Mary Papayya and Marcia Socikwa.

Ray White on The Xolani Gwala Show, speaks to Duduetsang Makuse, the national co-ordinator for lobby group the SOS Coalition .

Makuse feels the list of contains some good choices as well as some potentially poor ones.

We wrote a comprehensive comment on the people that we felt were a bit questionable, one of them being the name of deputy chairperson Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, based on a track record in other government departments and other state agencies where they worked.

We felt that we should be careful not to put on the board people that have a history of causing disharmony.

She says however, at this point, they are satisfied simply that there have been appointments as there are many decisions that could not be implemented by an incomplete board.

We are sitting with drafts that need to be adopted, we are sitting with issues, and we are dealing with issues around recapitalising the SABC. All those are amended decisions that have to be finalised so that the SABC can get back on track.

Duduetsang Makuse, National co-ordinator - The SOS Coalition

Makuse says there are still major financial concerns around the public broadcaster.

What we found and what was reported is a display of non-commital speak and we found that there is no clear pathway as to how the SABC is going to be recapitalised.

Is there going to be a guarantee or a bailout, who is it coming from and what are the terms and conditions that are attached to it?

We must mention that the good thing is that SABC newsrooms have managed to self-correct and report on what they needed to regardless of the fact that policies have not been adopted.

She says there will be added pressure on the SABC during election season and it is important that its editorial policies are concrete and reflect the constitution.
