Power outages, blocked roads as cold front hits Cape Town
Gale force winds and heavy rain hit Cape Town as a cold front slammed into the mother city late on Friday afternoon.
Spokesperson for the City's Disaster Risk Management Centre, Charlotte Powell says power outages were reported in Sybrand Park, Plumstead and Milnerton.
Roofs were blown off in Belhar, Strand, Khayelitsha, Woodstock and Claremont.
Powell says the City's main concern is fallen trees that have blocked roads.
Trees have been uprooted in Claremont, Southfield, Observatory. No rockfalls or mudslides have been reported.
The Disaster Risk Management Centre says at this stage it has not received any reports of flooding in informal settlements.
The electricity department is busy restoring power in affected areas and other departments are busy with mopping up operations.
Residents are requested to contact the Public Emergency Communication Centre in cases of emergency by dialling 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
The Disaster Operations Centre can also be contacted on 080 911 4357.
As high call volumes are being experienced, the City's also advised using Whatsapp on 063 407 3699.
