Vicki Momberg appeal

She now has 30 days to approach the Supreme Court of Appeal for leave to appeal her conviction.

The Johannesburg High Court on Friday dismissed Vicki Momberg's bid to appeal her conviction and sentence after she was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria.

In 2016, Momberg used the K-word 48 times and racially abused a police officer.

EWN reporter Kgomotos Modise says Momberg came to court hoping she would win the appeal, however, Judge Thifhelimbilu Mudau did not rule in her favour.

Judge Mudau delivered a short and precise judgment, beginning by saying her bid to appeal has been dismissed. She didn't read any of the reasons why but went on to advise her as to what she can do if she wanted to further the case.

According to Modise, Momberg wanted to hear her judgment from the benches but on the judge's request, she moved to the stand.

The judge has extended Momberg's bail with 30 days to allow her time to file for leave to appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal.

If she doesn't approach the Supreme Court of Appeal, she has 48 hours to hand herself over to the clerk of the Randburg Magistrates Court for her to go back and finish the rest of her sentence.
