The author says she chose the genre to teach people about their surroundings.

Author Melissa Volker says she incorporated romance and environmental issues in her books so people can be knowledgeable about their surroundings.

Speaking to John Maytham, Volker says being scientifically taught about environmental issues can be a burden.

Her debut romance novel A Fractured Land is a declaration of love for passion, adventure and the beauty of the South African landscape.

I think the world is a place not full of love and I like to write happy stories about kindness and love.

Melissa Volker, Romance Writer

Love stories don't have to end happily, romance does. I have chosen the romance genre because a happy ever after or a happy for now is a requirement of romance.
