#IFQSAT: Cabinet needs to regroup, rethink and phone us back only when they’re ready to sing with one voice.

27 March 2020 7:52 AM

Confusing messages from varying cabinet members and departments on the rules and responses to COVID-19 are contributing to anxiety, panic, binge buying and unraveling the positive, definitive call for action we got from the President at the beginning of the week.

#IFQSAT: Spare a thought for the managers and owners of large busines

26 March 2020 7:47 AM

We extend a great deal of time and empathy to workers and small business owners during periods of economic uncertainty, often with the assumption that medium-to-large business owners are well-to-do enough not to deserve consideration. Edcon CEO Grant Pattison’s emotional reaction to the dire conditions facing his business and suppliers highlights the degree of pressure all managers are under in times like this; and reminds us that they, too, are only human

#IFQSAT: We need a solution for artists in the lockdown

25 March 2020 7:38 AM

A government mandated shutdown of events means a government mandated shutdown of earnings for a significant portion of our workforce. We need a solution to this, for the artists. The answers are not forthcoming, quickly enough.

#IFQSAT: Coronavirus: I was never ready

24 March 2020 7:44 AM

I feel quite strongly that the rollercoaster of emotions will be severe in this 21-day lockdown, and even more intensified by physical isolation. #IFQSAT: Expertise cannot be gained by osmosis.

23 March 2020 7:49 AM

A disturbing number of false and misinforming posts on social media have gained momentum over the weekend, spurred by the credibility being claimed by the sender due to their proximity to an expert, a ministerial decision-maker, or senior business participant.

#IFQSAT: The #GigEconomy in South Africa requires the entire country’s support - and that begins with Empathy

19 March 2020 8:04 AM

The arts, entertainment (including sport) and hospitality industries - and every related portion of the #GigEconomy face a mammoth uphill battle in the coming months.
Monetary policy relief is welcomed. And fiscal relief may be hoped for - but near-impossible.
It will take a broader effort from across the entire economy to at least keep these critical industry participants - often relied upon to support the broader economy for “exposure” and with limited collective bargaining protection - afloat.
And #IFeelQuiteStronglyAboutThis... that begins with #Empathy.

#IFQSAT: It’s imperative to avert a Corona state of panic: Stay informed, stay isolated – and most importantly, stay calm

18 March 2020 7:44 AM

As the Travel Ban takes effect this morning, the reality of restrictions for those who are unprepared will heighten anxiety and panic from the markets to the high street. Your best defence is to track reputable information – regularly, to follow the government’s prohibitions closely, and to remain calm.
